The City of South Sioux City is one of the most technologically progressive cities in the state of Nebraska. The city strives to be a leader in providing technology opportunities for its citizens and businesses and is a nationally recognized leader in utilizing technology for public safety. 

Technology Department Mission 
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life and the safety of the citizens in the community through the promotion and use of technology. The technology department is responsible for the maintenance of the city's communications infrastructure including the fiber optic network,wireless broadband network, computer network, phone systems, radio communications and the municipal website.
 
Fiber Optics
The City of South Sioux City has implemented an extensive municipal fiber optic network that has been utilized to facilitate the proliferation of advanced communications services and broadband throughout the community. The main fiber optic ring encompassing the city consists of 144 strands of singlemode fiber. All nine schools in the South Sioux City Community School District are connected via the municipal fiber optic network. The 911 centers in South Sioux City and Sioux City, Iowa are connected via a 144 strand fiber optic cable that the City of South Sioux City bored underneath the Missouri River providing dedicated emergency communications and public safety information sharing between the two cities.
